Meet our Graduate

Elisabeth aka “Lizzie”

Elisabeth was a strong student and an avid reader who especially enjoyed Language Arts. Math was different. She had missed some important foundational skills when she was younger, which made each new level of math more difficult and frustrating. After facing academic and social challenges in traditional schools, Elisabeth transitioned to homeschooling and eventually decided that the GED pathway was the right option for her.

Elisabeth began working with GED NERD Services in April 2017. During her initial coaching sessions, we listened to her experiences, talked through her concerns, and helped her see that struggling in one subject did not erase her strengths or determine her future. GED Ready assessments helped us understand where she was academically, and we used the results to create a personalized study and testing plan.

Elisabeth was highly motivated and ready to work. Her strong scores in Language Arts and Social Studies allowed us to begin with the subjects where she felt most confident. GED NERD Services helped her identify what to review, develop test-taking strategies, prepare independently, and build confidence before each official exam.

After Elisabeth passed Language Arts and Social Studies in May, we shifted the plan toward Science and Math. GED NERD Services provided ongoing coaching, adjusted her study plan, and connected her with additional academic support and math tutoring. Instead of rushing her through the most difficult subject, we helped her prepare one step at a time and test when she was ready.

Elisabeth passed Science in June and completed her final Math exam in August 2017. She earned her high school equivalency diploma within four months and finished ahead of the year she would have graduated from a traditional high school. Elisabeth celebrated her accomplishment with a trip to Ocean City alongside her best friend and family.
